From waste to value
What do we throw away, and how does it become income?
بالعربيةاستمرّوا، ثم اربحوا، ثم انمُوا: وزّعوا الربح مسبقاً، وحوّلوا ما ترمونه إلى منتج أو مدخول.
When to use it
Once a month, and whenever there is profit left over.
The framework
The order:
Keep goingProfitGrow
First the business covers itself, then it makes a profit, then it grows.
Splitting profit: decide the shares in advance and write them down: one part for the reserve, one part to reinvest (a cold room, lab tests, equipment), and the rest for you.
Four questions for everything you throw away:
- What do we throw away every week, and how much?
- Who might need it?
- Can it become a product, feed, or be sold as it is?
- What does it cost to turn it into something, and what does it bring in?
Examples:
- Whey from akkawi, halloumi and baladi cheese: qarisheh, or animal feed.
- Manure: sold to farmers.
- Unused equipment: repaired or sold.
- Glass jars: a return scheme for customers.
Red line: no product that came back from a shop is ever reprocessed. Food safety first.
What you walk away with
One thing that used to be thrown away and is now a product or income, and the profit shares written down.
